[昧永] After 10 years in the U.S

杭択/譜崔 佰朕互疏泣緩湖仍屶隔恬宀云薮慌資誼湖仍 X 4

After 10 years in the U.S

Yesterday, I brought my wife to immigration, and after 4 hours of wait, she became a U.S citizen. Ironically, both of us don't feel any joy, me, because this is old for me, 10 years ago, I experienced the same thing, and 10 years of living in the U.S taught me one thing. I am still a Chinese in my heart. I may talk with other people in English, I may eat Steaks frequently (Mainly because my wife don't cook, and I really like to grill steaks). I am still Chinese! My wife don't like the U.S, because there's no one here to help her raise my child, the burden falls mainly on her, she wishs we're back in Shanghai, where both of our parents are. So, all in all, even when my family are all U.S citizens now, we still feel we're part of Chinese. No matter what happens, my wife and me will die a Chinese

My typical day

My typical day starts with a mug of coffee, and a plain bagel. The coffee is black, no sugar or milk, and the bagel is always buttered. The doctor said I should stop eat so much butter, but what the heck, it¨s one thing in my life that I enjoy. Around 8:25, I¨ll get dressed in my suit, and drive to work. The work is only half an hour from my residence, but that¨s half hour by car, on the highway, doing 45mph, yeah, 45 mph on the highway, the road to work is always congested, somehow, there¨s always some car accident, or road construction going on. Once I reached my work, where I am a branch manager of a bank. I¨ll start my work routine, in fact, my routine never varies, the tellers and my assistant manager knows exactly what I want, when I want it, and how I want it. My first order of the day is always the overnight overdraft report, I don¨t know if the Chinese bank does this, but overdraft is a big part of the bank¨s income here in the U.S, when someone purchased something with their debit card, they should have enough money in their account to cover it, but sometimes they don¨t. Well, the banks will gladly to pay for the item you purchased with an instant loan, of course, there¨s a fee attached to it. For instance, if you have only 3 dollars in the account, and the coffee you want is 3.50, well, you can enjoy the coffee, but there¨s $34 fee, yes, $34 for 50 cents insufficient fee, and part of my job is to tell the customer all these fees are normal, they should know how much they have in the account at any given time, which is a load of crap. But someone has to do it, it just happen to be my job, well, not really, my assistant manager¨s job, but since I¨m a nice guy, I somehow always get the most difficult customers to deal with. OK, that¨s what I do before 9:30. The rest of the day will have to continue in another time.

Some tips on interviewing for a job

Interviewing for a new job can be really scary, especially if it¨s a bank job. I have been a branch manager for quite some times, and I would like to share some insight with you guys.
1. Dress nicely, I have interviewed people who wears jeans, weird hairdos, too much perfume, or unclean teeth, let me tell you, these are very big no no for interviewing. Once I see people like that, I¨ll pretty much make up my mind right then and there that he/she won¨t get the job. It¨s called respect, I¨m taking my valuable time to interview you, and you should show respect by dress nicely, smell nice, and at least brush your teeth.
2. Be on time, being on time doesn¨t mean you have to be real early, half hour before the appointment time is good enough, if you arrive too early, I won¨t be prepared, I once had a girl who arrived 2 hours early, I had no choice but to send her home, and ask her to come back later. Since I had another appointment outside the branch. Half an hour is just long enough that you could finish all the paperwork and I can be mentally prepared to interview you.
3. Think before you speak, avoid idiom, abbreviation, slangs, or ethnical speech pattern. When I interview you, it¨s my only chance to make a snap decision on the spot based on your performance right there. If you speak without thinking, it¨s a waste of time for both of us. I won¨t know what you¨re capable of if you thought things thru, and most of time, people who don¨t think before they say anything will make an ass out of themselves.  I only had a girl came in, and in the middle of interview, she said, without thinking, that the banking system is corrupt, and she¨s going to steal as much money as she can. I know she regretted immediately what she said, but the horse has left the barn, and there¨s nothing she can do to change it, so, think, think and think before you speak.
This is just something I thought about when I was interviewing people today, hope it helps.
